چکیده

This paper presents Daisy, a scalable all-optical packet network where each node is equipped with one wavelength-tunable transmitter and one fixed-wavelength receiver. Network scalability is obtained with a novel multifiber ring topology that allows spatial reuse of wavelengths and requires an optical transmitted power proportional typically to the square root of the number of nodes. The scalability of the proposed topology is analytically evaluated by taking into account the characteristics of state-of-the-art optical components. The topology of Daisy provides one logical channel per destination node. Each channel is shared in statistical time division by all nodes transmitting to a given destination. A channel inspection capability at each node allows the implementation of efficient slotted ordered access protocols. As an example, a simple and efficient Ž . protocol named SRR Synchronous Round Robin is described, and its performance is assessed by means of simulation. q 1998 Elsevier Science B.V. FLAMINGO: A Packet-switched IP over WDM Metro Optical Network

We present a network architecture of an all-optical wavelength-and-time-slotted Metropolitan Optical Network. A couple of important aspects of this architecture include all-optical packet switching and the ability to put IP packets directly over WDM. Since the FLAMINGO network has a ring topology we focus on issues such as chromatic dispersion and network synchronisation and suggest ways and me...

An Optical Network Interface Unit for Hypercube-Based Mutichannel Ring Networks

In this paper we present an optical hypercube-based multichannel network. The hypercube routing functions are implemented on a ring topology using wavelength division multiplexed channels on a single ber. For a network of size N, we show that only r = log 2 N distinct channels are required. This design can accomodate both static and dynamic routing using packet or circuit switching. In addition...

OSNR game optimization with link capacity constraints in general topology WDM networks

This work studies games with coupled constraints in general topology optical wavelengthdivision multiplexed (WDM) networks towards optimizing channel optical signal-to-noise ratio (OSNR). We first develop a model to describe the network and an OSNR model for each link by investigating the interaction between the network and physical layers. The nonlinear threshold is considered as the link capa...

AER-SRT: Scalable Spike Distribution by Means of Synchronous Serial Ring Topology Address Event Representation

Given the massive number of interconnects in Spiking Neural Networks (SNNs), distributing spikes effciently becomes a critical issue for the efficient hardware emulation of large-scale SNNs. In this work, the AER-SRT (Address Event Representation over Synchronous Serial Ring Topology) architecture for spike transmission is proposed. AER-SRT is a light, easily scalable, packet-based solution imp...

Hierarchical Optical Ring INterconnection (HORN): A Scalable Interconnection-Network for Multiprocessors and Massively Parallel Systems

A new interconnection network for massively parallel computing is introduced. This network is called a Hierarchal Optical Ring INterconnection (HORN). HORN consists of a single-hop, scalable, constant degree, strictly non-blocking, fault-tolerant interconnection topology that utilizes Wavelength Division Multiple Access (WDMA) to provide better utilization of the terahertz (THz) bandwidth o ere...
